I HEART AGASSIZ Pledge Drive
Thank you to all the Agassiz families that comtributed to the pledge drive! We surpassed our goal of $55,000 and have over $65,000 pledged to date. Although the official deadline of the pledge drive has passed you are free to donate to the pledge drive at any time during the year.
Pledge Drive: Goals for Giving
Each year, Friends of Agassiz (FOA) hosts the I Heart Agassiz Pledge Drive as a way for families to show appreciation for the school and support its Strategic Plan for Fundraising. Donations help fill CPS budget gaps, strengthen our diverse community and cover our strategic goals:
Immediate: Technology repair and replacement
Short to Mid-Term: Staffing positions, fine and performing arts programming
Long-Term: Auditorium/gym renovation
Strategic Plan for Fundraising
Last year, Agassiz supporters raised over $100,000, which helps cover CPS budget gaps, strengthen our diverse community and support the school’s Strategic Plan for Fundraising.
Short-term goals include funding arts, drama and dance programming, as well as supporting vital staff positions, investing in classroom technology, providing science lab supplies and repairing playground equipment. Long-term goals include renovating the gymnasium/auditorium and hiring a full-time arts teacher.
FOA supports Agassiz with a variety of fundraisers and community events throughout the school year.
Each fall, the Agassiz Walk-a-thon, now in its 10th year, encourages family, friends and neighbors to sponsor students while highlighting our school's commitment to healthy habits.
In winter, the I Heart Agassiz Pledge Drive gives families the chance to show their appreciation for the school and what they love most. Families are encouraged to donate any amount they're comfortable with, whether it's a one-time amount or monthly.
Spring is host to two fundraisers: the Online Auction and Casino Night. The annual auction gives 300+ Agassiz families, their friends and neighbors across Chicago, plus over 300,000 bidders nationwide, the chance to bid on great items while supporting Agassiz. Casino Night is an adults-only night full of gaming, bidding and refreshments held in Chicago. Last year the two events brought in $44,000.
Community outreach events include monthly Dine Out for Agassiz nights at popular area restaurants, with a portion of proceeds going to the school. It's a delicious way to support local businesses while benefiting our neighborhood school. Past participants include Kirkwood Bar, Potbelly, Home Run Inn and DMK Burger.
FOA has provided financial support for a number of initiatives that would have otherwise been cut due to budget constraints
All parents and community members are welcome and encouraged to join Friends of Agassiz. Your participation, support and ideas can help shape Agassiz into the school you want it to be.
FOA usually meets the last Wednesday of months during the school year at 6:00 p.m. in the Music Room.

"My family and I joined the Agassiz community in 2015 when our son started first grade. I got involved with Friends of Agassiz shortly after and currently serve as the Secretary. Like many parents, my wife and I live outside of the neighborhood, but we are so happy to be a part of an energetic, arts-focused elementary school."
"I have two children at Agassiz (since 2012) and it’s been my pleasure to serve on the Friends of Agassiz Board of Trustees since 2014. We have lived in the neighborhood for over seven years and love the educated, caring, and energetic staff at our neighborhood school."
"I joined the Agassiz community in late 2016 when my son began Kindergarten. Being embraced by the community, I was excited to become an active member of this wonderful group of teachers and parents. This community offers great diversity that is beneficial for my son’s developmental growth. I love the friendly staff and parental involvement, which complements the school’s student environment. The principal has implemented great programs for the students and offers a great afterschool program. At Agassiz, my son will be able to take small but ensuring steps toward a better education."
