FOB is grateful for our many sponsors. A special thank you to the following sponsors for donating to our Fall Bulldogs Bop fundraiser. We are pleased to announce that fundraiser raised over $32,000. A portion of those funds will help support staff for their remote learning needs. 20% of the funds has been allocated to the Assistance Program Fund. Going forward, we will allocate 10% of all our fundraisers to that fund.
Also, please remember that the AmazonSmile app continues to help raise funds for our school and we have raised over $1200 thus far.
Principal Weber’s February 14th post regarding where funds were allocated from our recent fundraisers in 2020-21:
Happy Valentine’s Day! While this year we are celebrating from afar, I dedicate today’s post to sharing just some of the many reasons I love our school community and to the I Heart IB Bulldogs (see my heart) Pledge Drive Kick Off highlighting why so many of us love our community as well.
Our community is truly unique and special. This year, more than ever before, we have banded together through challenges none of us could have ever imagined. We have relied on our shared values of inclusivity, community, diversity and acceptance to ensure our students continue to thrive and our community continues to support each other through hardships like none ever endured. We have shown resilience in the face of adversity, commitment in the face of uncertainty and nonetheless remained focused on ensuring our students continue to persevere in today’s ever changing world.
This year has stretched each and everyone of us, has pushed us to grow and do things we never knew we were capable of doing yet it has also brought us back to the simple things in life and reminded us of what matters most, our families, our friends, and our health. It has brought renewed purpose and meaning to the very things we once may have taken for granted. This year has reminded me of the overwhelming strength we have when we work together, support one another and remain true to our values.
Today, while I reflect on the many reasons I love our community, I am also reminded of the many ways each of our families contribute to our school community and its success. This year each of you has personally contributed through your assistance during remote learning and by ensuring students have access to their classroom environments, teachers, and peers. We know that has not been easy for anyone.
In addition, many of you have also contributed by giving of yourselves to help serve as room parents, Local School Council members, and/or Friends of Bulldogs members. Today while I extend my deepest gratitude for the many contributions we have received from each of you, I want to also provide context to how those that have made financial contributions are helping us all.
While historically, Friends of Bulldogs have supported our school through fundraising to close budget gaps left from federal, state and local dollars, this year their funds have gone to support our entire student body, staff and families in the midst of a global pandemic.
Through Friends of Bulldogs and the partnership with our Chicago Cubs Charities we have been able to purchase and supply devices to over 200 families and will now be 1:1 for all students 3rd - 8th grade. Through Friends of Bulldogs alone, we have been able to purchase additional staff laptops, second monitors, document cameras and tripods to ensure our staff had what they needed for remote learning and now ensuring they have everything needed for the hybrid teaching model. Finally, through Friends of Bulldogs, we have been able to provide much needed assistance through our Assistance Program (English) (Spanish) to our families in need of food, supplies, clothing, winter attire, and more.
Between now and March 5, please join with me in participating in the I Heart IB Bulldogs Pledge Drive by sharing the various reasons you love our school community (share your love here) and/or by donating any amount that works for you and your family as we continue to support our students, staff and families. (Donations are being accepted on the FOB website).
I look forward to reading and seeing all the IB Bulldog hearts. Stay warm! Enjoy the day with those you love the most and have a wonderful week ahead.
Strategic Plan for Fundraising
In the last 5 years, we have raised over $500,000, which helps cover CPS budget gaps, strengthen our diverse community and support the school’s Strategic Plan for Fundraising.
Short-term goals include funding arts, drama and dance programming, as well as supporting vital staff positions, investing in classroom technology, providing science lab supplies and repairing playground equipment. Long-term goals include renovating the gymnasium/auditorium.
FOB supports our school with a variety of fundraisers and community events throughout the school year. See below for info on our annual fundraisers.
Each fall, the Fun Run (formerly Walk-A-Thon), now in its 14th year, encourages family, friends and neighbors to sponsor students while highlighting our school's commitment to healthy habits. The 2020 remote fall fundraiser: Bulldogs Bop (Fun Run) raised over $32,000
In winter, the I ♥ IB Bulldogs Pledge Drive gives families the chance to show their appreciation for the school and what they love most. Families are encouraged to donate any amount they're comfortable with, whether it's a one-time amount or monthly.
Spring is host to two fundraisers: the Online Auction and Gala. The annual auction gives 500+ school families, their friends and neighbors across Chicago, plus over 300,000 bidders nationwide, the chance to bid on great items while supporting our school. The Spring Gala is an adults-only night full of fun, bidding and refreshments held in Chicago. Two years ago, the two events brought in $60,000. Last year's event was canceled due to the pandemic. We will likely have to cancel the event in 2021 as well, but stay tuned for remote fundraising plans.
Community outreach events include monthly Dine Out nights (currently Dine IN nights) at popular area restaurants, with a portion of proceeds going to the school. It's a delicious way to support local businesses while benefiting our neighborhood school. Past participants include Kirkwood Bar, Potbelly, Chipotle, Pockets and DMK Burger.
FOB has provided financial support for a number of initiatives that would have otherwise been cut due to budget constraints.
All parents and community members are welcome and encouraged to join Friends of Bulldogs. Your participation, support and ideas can help shape Agassiz into the school you want it to be.
All meetings will be on Zoom for the foreseeable future. A link will be emailed prior to each meeting.
See below for Zoom meeting dates for the 2020/2021 year.
May 27 (Annual elections)
