Agassiz is thrilled to continue its partnership with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra through the CSO-Connect program. Each year students explore a chosen theme using classic literature and music as inspiration. They attend concerts both in-school and at Symphony Center, and share their projects with other CPS students in the program, as well as the Agassiz community. Teachers who participate in the program also attend professional development provided by the CSO.
Last year, our 8th grade students created projects on the theme of “Courage” using Cervantes’ “Don Quixote” and Strauss’ tone poem as inspiration, supported by members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago (the training orchestra for the CSO).
This year, our 7th grade students will work in language arts, design and music class to create arts integrated projects on the theme of “Let’s Explore!” based on music by Beethoven and Smetana.
Principal Weber was recently interviewed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra about how the arts inspired her as a child and the importance of music in education.
